CrossFit Boone has several coaches that are dedicated to improving lives using the principals of CrossFit. They’ll be there to help during warm-up and each part of the WOD. They’ll also monitor each workout, making sure everyone is performing the exercises with proper form.
Fitness Manager, Head CrossFit Coach
Greg has had a love of sports and training since childhood. He began with football but over time his interests expanded to include everything from power lifting and cycling to sprint triathlons and longer distance events (a couple Half Ironmans completed.) Greg holds both a B.S and an M.S. in Exercise Science and is certified by the National Strength & Conditioning Association as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). With 13 years of personal training and 4 years of teaching under his belt, Greg has had the opportunity to observe plenty of exercise and fitness routines and trends…and still, he’s never seen anything that compares to CrossFit.

A certified CrossFit Level One coach, Greg also holds CrossFit certifications in Olympic Lifting and Mobility. He’ll do all he can to help you reach your goals and provide you with the support, knowledge and focus to achieve your fitness goals. He promises that with CrossFit, boredom is an impossibility. Wellness Center Instructor & CrossFit Coach
Jay grew up a football guy…eventually finding himself a starter for the University of Florida football team, acquiring his B.S. and M.S. there, and counting himself among the university’s Strength & Conditioning staff along the way.
After a successful career with the world’s largest management consulting firm (and then as an entrepreneur himself), Jay and his family settled in Boone in 2008 where he has played many roles with the Wellness Center team: member, volunteer and instructor among them. He has learned (the hard way) how challenging but important it is to integrate work and fitness. After years of prioritizing work and other activities over fitness, Jay found himself overweight, out-of-shape and unhealthy. Six years ago he made a commitment to rearranging these priorities with overall health and wellness at the top. Enter Crossfit. Jay has developed a great appreciation for CrossFit because of how it addresses the needs most of us have: well-rounded fitness, orthopedic durability, functional work capacity, overcoming the limitations of injuries and improving athletic performance.
Jay enjoys coaching and encouraging others and is glad to be part of the team bringing CrossFit to the High Country through ARHS. In addition to completing his certification as a CrossFit Level 1 Coach, Jay is a member of the NSCA and has received further CrossFit certifications in Kettlebell Instruction, Movement & Mobility and Olympic Weightlifting.
Sarah began Crossfit around 5 years ago, after returning from Ethiopia where she worked for 4 years as Samaritan’s Purse’s Health Technical Advisor. She instantly fell in love with the weightlifting and gymnastics aspects of Crossfit and its high intensity WODs. She was also impressed by how quickly her level of fitness improved, especially in measurable increased strength.
Last year, Sarah completed her Crossfit Level 1 Certification. As a trainer, she is especially motivated by helping athletes learn new skills and building community. Sarah also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Global Health. She has 20 years of global health experience living and working in 17 developing countries, primarily in Africa and Asia. She focuses primarily in the area of social and behavior change, which is also a key component of Crossfit. She and her husband, James, have 3 children – Noah (10), Grace (8) and Levi (3).
Jamie started crossfit at 15 years old and immediately began to notice his outlook changing from self doubt to a certainty that, with hard work, and good people to encourage him he could not only reach but also create new goals inside the gym and in life. It gave him confidence along with a sense of belonging to be a part of such a tight knit and like minded community, something he had always truly wanted. This is the same feeling he looks to give back now as a coach, to give a sense of belonging and self confidence when you achieve something you never thought you could.
CrossFit Coach & Wellness Center Fitness Instructor
Abby Wilkerson has 8 years of experience working in the fitness industry and joined the Wellness Center in January 2018 when she moved here from Leland, NC. She attended East Carolina University where she received her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport and Exercise Psychology. She taught Kinesiology at ECU and was a CrossFit gym owner before moving to the Boone area. Abby enjoys helping people reach their fitness goals and educating people on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. She specializes in weight training, Olympic weightlifting, and cardiovascular conditioning. In her spare time Abby enjoys hiking, snowboarding, and weightlifting.
